Redefining the Politics of Emancipation

About

This is a blog where I plan to initiate or rather intensify the discussion about left politics in India. I use the term politics in its widest sense and not just electoral politics as practiced in India today. The term “LEFT” means the following to me – Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and Truth. It also means going to the etymological root of the word left i.e weak or useless (derived from the Anglo-Saxon “lyft”). This means the aim of left politics should unequivocally be the emancipation of the weak and powerless. Of course, the class of people who are weak and powerless keeps on changing with time as the definition of power and power structures keep on changing. In this blog, I will try to enunciate and discuss the power structures currently in play in Indian society and ways to combat and resist them. Resistance should not only mean a reaction to existing reality but also creating new realities. I think it is only through a concerted collective effort on both fronts that we can dream of achieving any kind of liberation. So, let the revolution begin!
